Packaging Maintenance Mechanic
Role & Responsibilities
The following responsibilities are included but not limited to:
- Responsible for the continuous functioning of various types of manufacturing packaging line systems and equipment within the Packaging and Manufacturing departments.
- Perform the setup of manufacturing and packaging equipment, routine maintenance, repair, minor electrical troubleshooting, and partner with the engineering team to install and commission new manufacturing and process equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair all packaging line systems and equipment including liquid filling, powder filling, tablet filling, and all secondary packaging equipment.
- Perform system modifications of existing lines as needed.
- Conduct root cause analysis, problem identification, reference technical documentation, assess material requirements, place requisitions, and perform actual repairs.
- Maintain inventory for spare parts and manage replacement of parts.
- Perform preventive maintenance to ensure all packaging equipment functions properly, and follow and execute preventative maintenance schedules.
- Provide accurate and timely documentation in equipment logbooks, and communicate effectively with coworkers during shift handoffs.
- Train team members on equipment issues to eliminate future occurrences.
- Maintain a solid understanding of cGMP practices and concepts, SOPs, Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), and OSHA regulations.
Education & Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma required; two-year advanced level preferred.
Job Qualifications
- Able to work independently and complete work orders in a professional and timely manner.
- Excellent understanding of packaging activities and document-described situations.
Experience & Skills
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience required.
Skills
- Ability to work independently — Intermediate level.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills — Advanced level.
Specialized Knowledge
- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong general maintenance knowledge.
Job-Specific Requirements
- Ability to read, comprehend, and follow SOPs written in English.
- General mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills necessary to diagnose, disassemble, repair, and reassemble packaging equipment.
- Knowledge of packaging equipment setup, adjustments, and packaging documentation is preferred.
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area during all operations within the facility.
- Flexible to work extended hours and on weekends as required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
